Freezer or refrigerator? How quickly does human milk spoil?

Freezing destroys some of the immune properties in human milk, so it's best if your baby is given fresh milk--milk that has been expressed and then refrigerated. The chart in Storage Times for Human Milk tells you how long you can keep expressed milk at room temperature, in the refrigerator, or in the freezer. (Print this file and keep it on your refrigerator door!)

Label each container with the date, so that you can use the oldest milk first and avoid needless waste.

How much should I store in each container?

Store your milk in small amounts, about two ounces in each container, at least at first. (If you're pumping milk for a premature baby, you may want to store it in even smaller amounts.) Breastfed babies take smaller amounts of milk at each feeding than do formula-fed infants, and smaller amounts are also quicker to thaw. Milk left in a bottle after a feeding can be saved until the next feeding, but after that it should be discarded, and you don't want to waste expressed milk. You can add more milk to already-frozen milk, but cool the added milk in the refrigerator first. There should be less added milk than already-frozen milk.

Hard containers will pop open as the milk expands. Bags will break. Squeeze out the air at the top of the bag and fasten it an inch above the milk.

How do I safely store my milk?

• Bags containing human milk should be placed inside another container in the refrigerator or freezer. This makes for better protection and easier handling.
• If you lay the bags down in a container in the freezer, you'll get flatter packages that will thaw more quickly. (But be sure they're sealed well, or you'll have a leaky mess.)
• You might want to keep all your hard containers of milk together in the freezer or refrigerator inside a larger plastic box.

How long can I keep the stored milk?

Amazingly, research has found that human milk stored in the refrigerator for eight days actually has lower bacterial levels than freshly expressed milk.

Since human milk can be kept in the refrigerator for up to eight days, it may be possible to provide your baby with fresh, not frozen, milk most of the time. This insures that your baby gets the maximum amount of nutrients and immunities. Instruct your caregiver to use the oldest milk first and keep the supply rotating.

Previously frozen milk can be kept in the refrigerator for 24 hours after thawing. This means that you or the baby's caregiver can thaw milk for all of your baby's feedings at one time, or you can thaw the milk in the refrigerator overnight. This can make it faster to prepare a bottle when your baby is hungry. Milk that has thawed should not be refrozen.

How do I safely transport my milk?

Research shows that bacteria do not grow readily in human milk, and that it can be kept safely at room temperature for 4 to 6 hours or more. So you don't need to worry if you can't rush your milk to the refrigerator right after you express. But it still makes sense to refrigerate the milk as soon as possible and to keep it cool when taking it home or to the sitter's. If you have refrigerator space available at work, you can store your milk there until the workday is over, or use an insulated container with reusable carry-ice to keep it cool.

What are the best ways to thaw and heat my stored milk

Heat can destroy human milk's enzymes, immune properties, and other valuable components, so the milk requires gentle care before it is served to baby. Follow these guidelines:

• Defrost milk by holding it under warm running water.
• Or, place the container of milk in a bowl of warm water on the kitchen counter. As the water cools, replace it with more warm water until the milk is thawed and warmed to body temperature.
• Do not heat expressed human milk on top of the stove. It's too easy to overheat it this way. Do not boil!
• Do not heat expressed human milk in a microwave oven. Even if the overall temperature of the milk stays below body temperature, there may be "hot spots" where the milk is overheated and some of its beneficial properties are destroyed. The uneven heating can also be dangerous when the bottle is given to baby.
• Human milk, like any milk that is not processed or homogenized, tends to separate when stored. The cream rises to the top. Swirl the bottle gently to mix the layers.
• Human milk has a thin, bluish look to it, quite different from either homogenized cow's milk or the grayish color of infant formula. Your baby's caregiver may need reassurance that this is normal.

checkup was okkayy

this morning's checkup at klinik desa was fine
my blood was ok,urine was ok,blood pressure also ok
the weight is "up-ping" as expected n now i'm 61.2kg
previous weight b4 expecting..49kg
hehe is that normal?i suppose so
the nurse told me 'bout things that'll happen in d labour room (cuaks!)
n she even talked to me about what kinda contraception that we shall use
later after we get d baby .hehe
i said that i'll discuss that with hubby later

hmm,d' baby is grumbling all the time
he never lets me feel alone
good boy..
even this evening,when mommy was gettin' so busy at school
(with new timetable that gives me no rest at all!)
he still moved frequently
a bit uncomfortable,but i don't mind
as long as that means he's healthy :)

Budin seorang yang amat benci pada kucing, entah apa silap yang telah
dibuat oleh kucing padanya tiada siapa yang tahu.

Walaupun begitu, jodoh pertemuan sememangnya ketentuan Illahi. Budin bertemu
jodoh dengan Gayah yang sememangnya amat suka dan cinta pada kucing. Bukan
itu sahaja, sebelum berkahwin dengan Budin, Gayah sudah sedia ada membela
seekor kucing siam.

Maka dari hari ke hari, bertambah benci dan meluatlah Budin pada kucing
terutama si Tompok, kucing siam peliharaan isterinya. Apa tidaknya, Gayah
lebih memberi tumpuan kepada si Tompok dalam kehidupan sehari-hariannya.
Hal ini membuatkan Budin beranggapan, Gayah lebih sayang si Tompok
berbanding dengan dirinya.

Akibat tidak mahu terus tertekan dengan keadaan ini, Budin membuat
rancangan untuk mengusir si Tompok dari hidupnya dan hidup isterinya,
Gayah. Maka, bermulalah dengan rancangan jahat Budin.

Pucuk dicita ulam yang mendatang, ketika isterinya sedang asyik mandi,
Budin dengan tanpa segan silunya telah menangkap si Tompok, disumbat dalam
karung beras Mahsuri. Tanpa berlengah terus merempit motor kapcainya
sehingga jauh dari rumahnya, lebih kurang 10 km lalu dihumbanlah si Tompok
tanpa belas kasihan. Dengan hati gembira, baliklah dia ke rumah dengan
siulan mengikut rentak lagu "Cindai" nyanyian Siti Nurhaliza.

Tapi, kegembiraan hanyalah sementara bila tiba di rumah si Tompok dengan
sombong bongkaknya melanggok depan pintu lagaknya menyambut kepulangan
Budin. Sakitnya hati Budin tak dapat digambarkan.

Besoknya, Budin meneruskan rancangan jahatnya. Kali ini lebih jauh dibawa
si Tompok, 20 km dari rumahnya. Tetapi seperti semalam Tompok berjaya
mendahuluinya pulang ke rumah. Budin tidak putus asa begitu sahaja,
alang-alang peluk pekasam, biar habis basah sampai ke pangkal lengan.

Maka nekadlah Budin, kali ini dia bukan sahaja hendak buang Tompok lagi
jauh tapi dibawanya Tompok pusing-pusing dahulu. Habis semua jalan
ditempuh, sekejap ke kiri, sekejap ke kanan, yang lurus, yang bengkok,
segala kona, segala selekoh habis dirempitnya dan akhirnya si Tompok
dibuang begitu sahaja.

Selang berapa minit kemudian, Budin menelefon Gayah.

Budin : Ayang, Tompok ada kat dalam rumah tak ? (tanya Budin dengan penuh
suspen lagi berdebar-debar...)

Gayah : Ada, ada dekat depan pintu tu ha, Kenapa ? (tanya Gayah keheranan.)

Budin : Panggil dia! (herdik Budin dengan nada yang tinggi...)

Gayah : Naper ? (tanya Gayah lagi.)

Budin : Aku nak tanya dia, camaner nak balik umah. Aku sesat ni!...

Gayah : ??????????

baju kwn aku..diguna wat sampel

hehe, ni la sbnanya yg jd keminatan haku sejak tahun lps.
'beads' !!!!!!!!! hehe, tujuannya utk mencantikkan or memeriahkan seswatu baju or garment itu.
aku last year amik gk upah skit2 jahit manik yg kt tgn tuh. ala, yg simple2 je.yg anta upah pon cikgu2 skolah aku la. hm, thn ni kurang sket amik upah.sbb aku mls. lgpon skill memanik aku xbetambah lg.huhu..

so..skang ni tgh dlm proses nk memantapkan skill la.sifu aku adalah geng2 dr skola aku gk. dorg mmg dh expert dlm bab2 ni. slalunya hasil jahitan akan dpt dikongsi bersama satu skola (he, dorg suke jdkan bhn pameran dlu b4 baju tu diserah pd org yg mengupah ). hmm..mmg cantik la kalo aku dpt wt sebijik cmni nnti. tunggu!!!

d' holiday is almost over..

em, cuti dh nk bis. we're back to pontian, to start our school session for d 2nd sem.
overall, dis cuti was exciting n tiring at d same time. hehe.tp yg pnting, dpt jmpe family members from hubby's side. kami mmg jrg2 dpt jmpe, so bile jmpe, sronot la.

dr kdh aritu, kitorg cntinue pejalanan ke kl lak.bwk abah n 'new mom' jln2. so we all stay kt umah kakak kt sg penchala n from there, bmula la jln2.g muzium negara, tmn burung n masjid negara.mlm lak, lepak2 dpn klcc.the next day, destination:m'cca. smpai kt zoo mlaka, fuh, ramai woo org.jln lg, tgk2 animals...lyn mata smbil tgk org bwk baby bejalan2..hehe

aku..pnat?huahhua. pnt la.tp masiy leh ditahan lg. time pnt2 cmni..akn jd bsmgt blk biler tgk brg2 baby skit2 dh d'kumpul kt dlm umah ni.dlm ati ni ade sdkit rase xsbr nk jmpe dier..but at d same time..quite nervous when thinking 'bout the 'procedures'. ouch! hopefully all will turn out well.manyak2 la doa..

hye. em, currently we are in kedah...spending the 2 weeks school holidays .
